Annual fees for members are split into two portions: membership fee and licence fee. Members are eligible to apply for a licence waiver if they are retired or not working in Saskatchewan in one of the following three scenarios:
- not currently residing in Saskatchewan and not practicing engineering or geoscience on projects or properties located in Saskatchewan; or
- residing in Saskatchewan, but not practicing engineering or geoscience in Saskatchewan and unemployed (not working at any job whatsoever); or
- regardless of place of residence:
- pursuing full-time studies at an educational institution;
- on maternity, paternity or parental leave;
- away from the workforce to raise a family or provide elder care;
- retired and not eligible for Life Membership;
- on disability leave.
Members granted a license waiver are still required participate in the APEGS CPD Program.
Applying for a Licence Waiver?
New members (new approvals) wanting to apply for a licence waiver should refer to Payment Info Sheet – New Approvals – Individuals and Licence Waiver Application Form.
Existing members that are renewing for the upcoming calendar year should refer to the Annual Fees Info Sheet and Licence Waiver Application Form.
How to reinstate your licence if you received a licence waiver
If you are granted a licence waiver and sometime later during the year you return to work or obtain engineering or geoscience work on projects or properties located in Saskatchewan, you are required to inform APEGS and pay the prorated licence fee. Members can call the APEGS office or Contact Us to have their prorated licence fee calculated.
Members can pay their licence fees in one of three ways:
- by credit card through APEGS Central, the self-serve portal;
- by credit card over the phone; or
- by mailing APEGS a cheque.
Please note: A member’s licence will not be reinstated until payment is received by APEGS.
Members who hold a license waiver and are under a CPD administrative suspension are unable to reinstate their license until the suspension is removed. For more information, contact the CPD Department.
Licence waiver ineligibility
Members/Licensees are not eligible for a licence waiver if:
- their circumstances are not listed above;
- they are a resident in Saskatchewan, are employed (including non-engineering/geoscience jobs) and are registered in Saskatchewan only, regardless of workplace location;
- they are an Official Representative for a Certificate of Authorization (C of A) and there is no other Official Rep for the C of A that is licenced;
- they are a Temporary Licensee.
Retroactive remission of licence fee
The following members are eligible for retroactive remission of the licence fee upon written request to APEGS*:
- those residing in Saskatchewan, not practicing engineering or geoscience in Saskatchewan and unemployed (not working at any job whatsoever); or
- regardless of place of residence:
- pursuing full-time studies at an educational institution;
- on maternity, paternity or parental leave;
- away from the workforce to raise a family or provide elder care;
- retired and not eligible for Life Membership;
- on disability leave.
Please note: Any circumstances not listed above are not eligible for retroactive remission of licence fees.
*Retroactive remission may be granted for the licence fee applicable to the previous calendar year only. Retroactive remission for a waiver of the licence fee will only be considered for durations of three consecutive months or longer. The three consecutive months do not have to occur all in the same calendar year.
If members are eligible for retroactive remission of a licence fee, a credit will be applied to their account (to be used toward future annual fees). A refund will be issued only if the member discontinues their membership. In this case, the refund would be granted to the person or company who paid the licence fee.
