Qualified Persons Training

The Water Security Agency is partnering with Southeast College, to provide a dynamic and informational Introductory Qualified Persons Training course. This free course consists of five instructor-led online sessions.

The course offers the introductory concepts that are important to ensure people who want to work as a Qualified Person (QP) have the appropriate skills and knowledge necessary to assist producers with completing Drainage Applications.

During this course attendees will learn about:

• WSA’s Agricultural Water Management Strategy,
• the roles of a QP and who can be a QP,
• WSA’s Drainage Approval Process,
• What drainage is,
• The types of wetlands and how to classify a wetland,
• climate change and how this should be considered in the design of drainage works,
• the impacts of drainage,
• How to complete a drainage application,
• the importance of land control,
• the risks of drainage networks and how to mitigate for these risks to ensure the design of agriculture water management projects is resilient and reduces the risks of the works.

If anyone is interested in participating in this course, the next online Introductory QP Training Course will start next on October 4, 2022, and it will consist of five virtual online sessions that are ~3 hours in length. So, the sessions start on Tuesday October 4th and finish on Thursday October 13^th and are scheduled between 9am and 12pm for each of the five sessions.

Note: If you can’t take the October 2022 session, this course will also be offered the weeks of November 8 – November 17, 2022 (five mornings between 9am-12pm).
