Event Summary: This interactive training introduces participants to the Pyramid Method of Writing(tm) and applies it to writing effective emails, letters, short and long reports, and proposals. Participants will receive personal feedback on three writing assignments. The format provides time to discuss and evaluate longer more technical documents such as recommendations, investigations, formal reports and studies, and proposals. Individual and group exercises allow participants to practice the concepts and learn from each other.
AGENDA:
Webinar 1 (1.5 hours)
- Identifying and focusing the reader’s attention on the main message
- Differentiating between “need to know” and “nice to know” information
- Applying Pyramid Method of WritingTM to organize information
- Understanding the purpose for writing (informative or persuasive)
Webinar 2 (1.5 hours)
- Writing action-getting requests for internal and external audiences
- Using language to create a confident image of you and your organization
- Using the active voice to make the information easier to understand
Webinar 3 (1.5 hours)
- Personalizing your writing to create a comfortable tone
- Eliminating wordy expressions from your writing
- Developing a clear, concise and complete writing style
- Evaluating a request from a reader’s point of view
Webinar 4 (1.5 hours)
- Determining the best tool: email, phone, text or video
- Writing to multiple-audiences (technical and non-technical)
- Writing short reports – incident, inspection, field trip, progress and project completion
Webinar 5 (1.5 hours)
- Writing longer reports- evaluations, recommendations
- Writing numbers and abbreviations
- Writing instructions and procedures
Webinar 6 (1.5 hours)
- Editing techniques
- Writing short informal proposals
- Designing information for readability
