If you are eligible for Life Membership or will become eligible in the upcoming year and you wish to apply for it, you may apply using the Licence Waiver Resignation and Life Member application form (yellow form).
A professional member who is 65 years of age or more and is retired is eligible for Life Membership. Life Members are not required to pay either the annual membership fee or licence fee. A life member who subsequently wishes to resume engineering or geoscience work on projects or properties located in Saskatchewan simply has to call the APEGS office and shall pay the pro-rated membership and licence fees plus GST for the remainder of the calendar year.
If you are retired or not working at the beginning of the year you turn 65 you can apply for life membership in advance of your birthday. You would be given temporary life membership and then it will be officially granted at the first meeting of Council after your 65th birthday has passed. This procedure is in place to avoid having you pay annual fees at the beginning of the year only to have them refunded later in the year. Note that this does not apply if you are still working at the beginning of the year you turn 65.
How to apply for Life Membership
Apply using the Licence Waiver Resignation and Life Member application form (yellow form), and submit it to the APEGS office either by mail, fax or scan and email to email@example.com.
Life Members and use of title
Life Members are permitted to continue to use the professional designation they had at the time they became a life member (P.Eng., P.Geo., Engineering Licensee, Geoscience Licensee, Engineer-in-Training or Geoscientist-in-Training).
Refund of annual fees for life members
As per Council policy Admin6.0, Life Member applicants (new and reinstating) may receive a refund of annual fees within a period of one year from the date the member qualifies for Life Membership. The refund shall be for the calendar year the member became eligible for life membership.
What if I want to return to practice
A life member who subsequently wishes to resume practice simply has to call the APEGS office and shall pay the pro-rated membership fee and licence fee plus GST for the remainder of the calendar year. A credit card number can be provided over the phone or you can mail a cheque. If you need a dues notice mailed to you, you can request it at the time you call to reinstate.
I am a former member of APEGS and I qualify for life membership
For new life member applicants who are a former member of APEGS, no annual fees are charged no matter how long ago your membership ended. To apply as a life member, submit the life member application (attached in the Related Documents below).
